acetylcysteine |
200 mg |
Mucolytic drug. The presence of sulfhydryl groups in the molecular structure of acetylcysteine helps to break the disulfide bonds of acid mucopolysaccharides of mucus, which leads to reduction in mucus viscosity. It has mucolytic action, facilitates expectoration due to the direct impact on the rheological properties of sputum. The drug remains active in the presence of purulent sputum.
In case of prophylactic use of acetylcysteine there is a marked decrease in the frequency and severity of exacerbations in patients with chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis.
ACC 200 Overdose
In case of accidental or intentional overdose such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, heartburn, nausea are observed. So far, no severe and life-threatening side effects have been observed.
ACC 200 interactions
In case of simultaneous use of acetylcysteine and antitussives due to suppression of the cough reflex the dangerous stagnant mucus may occur (combination should be used with caution).
In case of simultaneous use of acetylcysteine and nitroglycerin vasodilator effects of nitroglycerin may be increased.
The synergism of acetylcysteine with bronchodilators has been noted.
Acetylcysteine reduces the absorption of cephalosporins, penicillins and tetracyclines, so they should be taken orally no earlier than 2 hours after taking acetylcysteine.
Acetylcysteine is pharmaceutically incompatible with antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, erythromycin, tetracycline and amphotericin B) and proteolytic enzymes.
After contact of acetylcysteine with metals and rubber sulfides with a characteristic odor are formed.
